My Journey as a GAS Student at Capas Senior High School

When i first entered Capas Senior High School everything felt new to me especially since i was a transferee in grade 11. I didn’t know what course or strand to take but people often say if you’re undecided you should go for the general academic strand (GAS) because it’s suited for those who are unsure of their future course. So i chose GAS. Initially i asked myself if this strand would be a good fit for me? and i thought it might be difficult since all subjects are covered in GAS. But despite thinking that it might be hard i maintained a positive mindset. I told myself that things are usually tough at the start but they get easier once you get used to them. Of course not everything is easy in life we must go through challenges before we achieve success. I believe that every strand has its own difficulties but in different ways.

During the first day of school i was extremely nervous because i was a transferee and didn’t know anyone in Capas. To make matters worse i was late on the first day because i didn’t know my section yet (hahaha). When i finally found out my section and entered the classroom i felt so embarrassed because all eyes were on me i was the center of attention (char hahaha) but thankfully i wasn’t the only one late so i wasn’t alone in that awkward moment (hahaha)

When i saw my grade 11 subjects i got a little anxious because some of them seemed difficult. However i was already familiar with the PE subject and it quickly became my favorite, i liked PE because it involved group activities which helped me get closer to my classmates, thanks to PE i started forming friendships, another subject i enjoyed was personal development (PerDev) because it involved drawing and i really love drawing more than writing essays (just kidding, kind of). The teacher in PerDev was also organized to teach which made the subject more enjoyable.

One subject i struggled with was anything related to english i’ve always been weak in english, especially in subjects like disciplines and ideas in the social sciences (DISS) and oral communication. Fortunately, our oral communication teacher was organized so i managed to cope but DISS hays was a different, math was also a bit challenging but i preferred solving problems over writing essays whenever the teacher explained the lessons well i understood them although i would forget them soon after (hahaha). But there was a secret, our teacher in the second semester was really handsome (hahaha just kidding, but seriously, he was). But i didn’t just struggle with the subjects though. I also found it hard to socialize with my classmates because i didn’t know anyone. But thankfully i met friends gab, mika, aira, and ivone. They became an important part of my life making me feel more comfortable in our section. They were always there to help and we supported each other without any competition. Thanks to them, my grade 11 experience became much easier. My subjects became more manageable i got to know more of my classmates and i was surprised when i made it to the honors list from the 1st to the 4th quarter i was really thankful to god and became more motivated to study hard.

Now that i’m in grade 12 everything has changed. The people around me have changed and so have the subjects. The grade 12 subjects in GAS are harder especially practical research and physics. There are times i feel like giving uphonestly i almost did (hahaha) i find physics really tough since i barely understand it and economics is also challenging since it focuses on business something i’m not familiar with. However i do have favorite subjects like philosophy which discusses life and our actions in the world and organization and management where the lessons are well organized and easy to understand. I also love empowerment technologies because it’s about technology i want to learn more about technology.

As a grade 12 student i’ve become busier than ever. There are so many tasks and assignments to complete that sometimes i feel like i’ve lost the right to be happy because i’m buried in schoolwork. But despite everything i keep fighting and pushing through my subjects determined to succeed. And one bright spot in all of this is that i made it to the honors list again in the first quarter, the sleepless nights have paid off and i’m truly grateful. But the battle isn’t over yet, i still have the second to fourth quarters to face and i hope i can keep up the hard work until i graduate.

For those considering the GAS strand my advice is to go for it. It’s a great strand because you’ll learn so much especially if you’re undecided about your future course. There are plenty of opportunities in GAS though it’s not easy. But if you focus on your studies and put in the effort it will become easier for you, i promise! Remember that every strand has its own challenges and none of them are easy, GAS is also good because it tests your skills and helps you improve your knowledge. And don’t forget to have fun along the way life isn’t just about academics take some time to enjoy it too. But just don’t neglect your studies. Buhay ay di karera!
